Хабиб Борджян входил в состав совета редакторов
Encyclopaedia Iranica
, академического справочника, посвященного изучению иранской цивилизации на Ближнем Востоке, Кавказе, в Центральной и Южной Азии, и охватывает все аспекты ее истории и культуры, а также языков и литературы, включая иранскую, семитскую, тюркскую и индийскую. Он работал в редакционной коллегии нескольких академических журналов и работал заместителем редактора журнала персидских исследований. Научная деятельность доктора Борджяна насчитывает множество статей в рецензируемых журналах и отредактированных томах. В настоящее время он занимается филологией и этнолингвистической документацией.
Его академическая подготовка охватывает Колумбийский университет, Тегеранский университет и Ереванский государственный университет. Д-р Борджян работал научным сотрудником в Центре иранских исследований Колумбийского университета (2010-19 гг.). Последние девять лет он входил в совет директоров Endangered Language Alliance, целью которого было документирование редких языков, на которых говорят иммигрантские общины в Большом Нью-Йорке.
С 2012 года он также занимал должность содиректора Ближневосточного региона в проекте «Исчезающие языки», совместном проекте Google и Univ. Гавайев, в которой его работа связана с определением и классификацией языков, на которых говорят в Афганистане, Пакистане, Центральной Азии, на Кавказе, в Турции и Иране. Во время своего пребывания в Ассоциации по изучению персидских обществ (2006-2012) Борджян организовывал и председательствовал на двухгодичных конференциях в Тбилиси, Лахоре и Хайдарабаде. В 2017–2019 учебных годах он входил в состав комитета Сената по библиотекам Колумбийского университета.
