Дмитрий Александрович Петров (род. 8 февраля 1969 , Москва ) — американский биолог российского происхождения.
Родился 8 февраля 1969 года в Москве в семье Александра Павловича Петрова , математика, специалиста по распознаванию образов и психологии зрительного восприятия, и его жены Фаины Аркадьевны, урождённой Вайзман . В 1989 году окончил Московский физико-технический институт , защитив диплом по физике и молекулярной биологии. Петров получил докторскую степень по биологии (PhD) в Гарвардском университете под руководством Ричарда Левонтина и , продолжил обучение в Гарварде в качестве независимого научного сотрудника (Junior Fellow) и постдока в лаборатории , а затем поступил на факультет [ какой? ] Стэнфордского университета . И в 2000 году получил там должность доцента (Assistant Professor) на срок до 2005 году, в 2009 году стал полным профессором, а в 2011 почётным профессором Кевина и Мишель Дуглас .
Петров наиболее известен своими работами по эволюции геномов, количественной оценке естественного отбора с использованием геномных данных, а также экспериментальной и теоретической работой по очень быстрой эволюции в больших популяциях животных, вирусов и соматических клеток .
